In short: We collect personal information that you provide to us, and some information is collected automatically when you use our Services.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when you register, use EstateMate, contact us, or otherwise interact with the Services. This may include:
When necessary, with your consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law, we process the following categories of sensitive information so we can help you settle an estate:
We do not collect or process sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
If you make a purchase, your payment is processed and stored by Stripe. EstateMate does not store your card number. You may review Stripe's privacy notice at stripe.com/privacy.
Some information — such as your IP address and browser or device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity, but may include:
EstateMate uses your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies) to keep you signed in and remember your checklist progress. Our analytics provider, Plausible, is cookieless and does not track you across other websites.
In short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law.
We do not use your estate data or personal information to train machine learning models, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond providing and improving the Service.
In short: Yes. We offer optional, human-reviewed AI features, and you are always in control of your data.
As part of our Services, we offer tools powered by artificial intelligence (our "AI Products"), provided through our AI service provider, Anthropic. Your input and the resulting output are processed by Anthropic to enable these features. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
Our AI Products are designed for the following functions:
How to opt out. Using EstateMate's AI features is optional. You can choose not to upload documents or use AI-assisted drafting and instead enter information manually. AI-generated content is always presented to you for review before it is used, and you can edit or discard it. You may delete any uploaded documents, and your entire account and its data, at any time from your account settings, or by contacting us.
In short: We keep your information for as long as your account is active, then delete it — except where a longer period is required by law.
We keep your account and estate data for as long as your account is active, so you can continue to access it. When you delete your account, we remove your estate records, uploaded documents, and account from our active systems promptly, and purge them from routine backups within ninety (90) days (approximately three months).
If your account remains inactive (no sign-in) for twenty-four (24) months, we may email you at your registered address; if it remains inactive for a further six (6) months, we may delete the account and its associated data after notice.
We may retain limited information where required by law or for legitimate business purposes — for example, payment and tax records for up to seven (7) years, and records needed to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements — after which it is deleted. When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will delete or anonymize it, or, if that is not possible (for example, because it is stored in backups), we will securely isolate it from further processing until deletion is possible.
In short: We use appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information.
Our safeguards include encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, per-user data isolation so that one user cannot access another's documents, authentication managed by AWS Cognito (passwords are never stored in plain text), secrets kept in a dedicated secrets manager, and regular backups. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never defeat our security. Transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk, and you should only access the Services within a secure environment. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your EstateMate account.
In short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.
By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18, or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to their use of the Services. If we learn that personal information from users under 18 has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under 18, please contact us at support@yourestatemate.com.
In short: You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time, depending on your state of residence.
If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, you have the right to withdraw it at any time by contacting us. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing before its withdrawal, nor processing conducted in reliance on other lawful grounds.
At any time you can review or change the information in your account, or terminate your account, by logging in to your account settings, or by contacting us at support@yourestatemate.com. You can also export a copy of your data and delete your account directly from your account settings. Upon your request to terminate your account, we will deactivate or delete your account and information from our active databases, though we may retain some information to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist investigations, enforce our legal terms, or comply with legal requirements.
Most web browsers include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals. If a standard is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you in a revised version of this Privacy Policy.
